Many in the Christian faith believe that if they study their bible enough they will come away with Jesus’ secret message. They think that hidden in those bible verses is a secret message that he intends for only his “true” believers. Like the Da Vinci code it is hidden away so that only a few will receive it.

I’m not a fan of conspiracy theories so I tend to disregard those who have such beliefs. To me Jesus made it ultimately clear what his message is:

The Greatest Commandment Mark 12:28-32

One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?”

“The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’  The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”

These words must be the foundation for everything relating to Jesus. It is astounding to me that they are not written on every chapel, cathedral, and anything else having to do with our current day visions of God. It totally frustrates me that so many church denomintions seems to actually downplay these words. They say that the only reason Jesus came to earth was to die for our sins; everything else in their minds very very secondary.  They say that Jesus intends for us just to sit back and let his grace flow over us and expects nothing else.

I read the words above and so many like them in the Bible and can’t understand why his clear message to live out our faiths is not celebrated or even understood by so many who call themselves Christians. I am currently in a somewhat dark mood about the future of Christianity and these very obvious ignored messages are straining on me.  It is so obvious to me that the message of Jesus was in no way hidden within the biblical text. It is very clear as a brightly shining beacon for those who will open their eyes and see it!
