In the last post I let my overactive imagination maybe get away from me about the end-times. This time I want to study some of the red letters that I think refer to the end times and bring up some personal questions about them. I have pulled out four sections of text that I want to discus.
Matt 24:36-37
“No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.
Matt 16:28-17:1
I tell you the truth, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom.”
Mark 9:1
And he said to them, “I tell you the truth, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the kingdom of God come with power.”
Luke 9:27
I tell you the truth, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the kingdom of God.”
I hadn’t thought about some of this before but it sounds like Jesus thought the end-times would come while he was on this earth or soon thereafter. Jesus, the Father, and the Holy Spirit being three in one but still one in three is a confusing concept that few, if any, really can fathom. From our limited standpoint it is hard to understand that Jesus really doesn’t know when the end-times will come?
The last three quotes seem to indicate that Jesus did know or at least was guessing. Some take these words just to mean that the son of God will soon be sacrificed for mankind; but others think he was pointing to the end-times when God’s kingdom would come to earth. Some say Matthew 16:28 is referring to the transfiguration since it is recorded in the following verses, but I personally can’t understand how the transfiguration can be referred to as coming of his kingdom?
On previous posts I have commented that we Christians just can’t seem to agree on many things. But this post is one of those areas where confusion certainly seems warranted. If anyone reading this has a better understanding of these particular words of Jesus please share it with us.
The Kingdom of God is the reign of God. The reign on God in ones heart. Somewhere in one of the Gospels Jesus speaks to the Pharesees about it being in the heart. The Kingdom of God is not the Kingdom of Heaven.
Acts 1:4 And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, “which,” He said, “you have heard from Me; 5 for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.” 6 Therefore, when they had come together, they asked Him, saying, “Lord, will You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?” 7 And He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority. 8 But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
Romans 14:17 For God’s kingdom does not consist of food and drink, but of righteousness, peace, and joy produced by the Holy Spirit.
Now pls edit this topic. Take care and God bless you. Jesus wasn’t guessing about the Kingdom of God. He knew what He was saying.
